Hattie Baked a Wedding Cake"For the garden wedding of the cobbler and the cook, Fran brought the flowers, Bert brought the streamers, and Jill brought a hundred red balloons.
"And Hattie baked the wedding cake." Sounds ordinary enough -- but have you seen what Hattie's mixing into the cake batter? Dancing shoes, a pair of specs, stray sunbeams and more! She's too busy looking at her cookbook to pay attention. The batter gets bigger and bigger. But Hattie doesn't notice. The batter gets so big it won't fit into the cake pan. Hattie must find just the right container to hold all of it. Can you guess what she uses? This was one of my first books to be published. I was thrilled with Cathi's artwork. What a lot of strange things she put in Hattie's kitchen! When an artist can make a picture book funnier and richer than it was with just the words, that is a very good sign.

Reviews"A bit of stray sunbeam, music from a string quartet, a breeze from the windchimes, and a stray kiss are just a few of the unusual ingredients that Hattie beats into this wedding cake . . . This bit of magic stirred up with lots of imagination is a sure recipe to delight young audiences." School Library Journal * Starred review in Booklist |
